MELT!Festival starts producing its own energy with Solar Panels in 2011

Starting in March 2011 the Melt! Festival solar panels were installed on the rooftops of the festival site Ferropolis where also the Splash Festival takes place every year. From May 2011 on the solar panels will be in use to accumulate energy.

Of course, Melt! Festival will profit from these newly installed collectors, which boast the capacity of 235 kilowatts-peak. But the energy used by the Festival itself is only about 20% of the total energy accumulated by the solar panels. Therefor 80% of the energy can be sold to the local energy supplier which makes the solar panels even more worth its investment.

“Nowhere else you can see the transformation from the coal-mining era to the age of solar energy as vivid as in Ferropolis,” Thies Schroeder, manager of Ferropolis, states.
